Colt Model 1862 Pocket Navy Conversion Revolver with J.R. Hegeman Collection Stamp

Manufactured as a 38 centerfire cartridge revolver circa 1873 to 1880. Most 1862 conversion revolvers were converted to rimfire. This one is converted to centerfire which is more rare. The top barrel flat is marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" and the 1871 and 1872 patent dates on the left side of the frame. The left trigger guard shoulder is marked "36 CAL". The complete matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap, the partial number "561" on the cylinder, the cylinder pin is numbered "1500" and the wedge is un-numbered. The rebated cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene. The rear of the cylinder has been milled off, a breech plate with loading gate installed and a centerfire firing pin has been added to the hammer. Fitted with a smooth one-piece varnished walnut grip, that is stamped "JRH JR" on the bottom right hand side. (J.R. Hegeman Jr., the first important Colt Collector, late 19th/early 20th century).

Good. The barrel has a brown patina with some light oxidation. The cylinder and frame have a mottled silver gray and gray patina. There is some minor oxidation on the cylinder and the scene is 95% visible. The trigger guard and back strap retain 15% original age darkened silver plating mainly in concentrated areas, with a natural untouched aged patina on the balance. The grip is also very good with almost all of the original varnish remaining, and showing some lower edge wear and some minor dents, dings and scratches. The action is fine.
