Manufactured in 1872 this pocket revolver was factory chambered for the .38 centerfire cartridge using left over Model 1862 Police Percussion parts. Standard conversion with the loading port having been enlarged, a breech plate added and the rear of the rebated cylinder has been removed. The round barrel with an ejector rod and housing mounted on the right side is stamped with the two line Hartford address on the top. The left side of the frame has the two line July '71 and '72 patent marking with dashes and the left side of the trigger guard shoulder is stamped "36 CAL". The cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene. Matching numbers on the cylinder, frame, barrel and trigger guard with the brass back strap being unserialized with light file marks present. Fitted with a smooth one-piece ivory grip. Condition: Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 40% of the blue finish in and around the protected areas with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. The frame retains 20% of the case colors with a balance a smooth brown-gray patina. There is some pin point type pitting on the barrel. The brass has moderate traces of silvered out plating around the trigger guard area. The cylinder engraving is clear and crisp. The grips are very fine with some minor nicks and scratches and a few minor hairline cracks on the butt. Period replaced nickel plated hammer.
