Colt Model 1861 Navy revolver, Richards-type conversion to .38 centerfire, blue and case hardened finish, varnish wood grips, #32746. The revolver remains in good to very good original condition showing 20%-30% originalblue drifting to brown, some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The cylinder shows 30%-50% light original cylinder scene. There are some areas of pitting on the cylinder but generally goodmetal surfaces. The frame and hammer show strong traces of case hardening drifting to a natural patina. The straps show traces of original darkened silver. The varnished wood grips are very good+ showing 75%-85% original varnish, some losses at the edges and minor scratches with normal carry and use. The action is crisp; the bore near excellent. The original small parts, ejector-rod head and screws are retained. The left side of theframe shows ’71 and ‘72 patent dates and the serial number is high enough that this was probably made as a cartridge revolver. The cylinder shows the correct 746 serial number beneath the 194 percussion number, which
