Colt Model 1860 Richards Conversion Army Revolver

This is an excellent example of a Colt 1860 Army revolver that has been factory fitted with a Richards conversion unit. This revolver is a Second Model conversion, a transition type between the Richards and Richards-Mason models found in the 170,000-200,000 serial number range. This type of conversion was performed by supplying a new 44 caliber cylinder, installing a new cylinder ring and loading gate in front of the recoil shield, replacing the loading lever with an ejector housing and mounting a center-fire pin on the hammer face. Blade and notch sights, with the top of the barrel marked "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" the left side of the frame having the "two July" patent marks stamped over "COLTS/PATENT", "44 CAL" on the triggerguard and the Texas Navy roll-stamp on the cylinder. Matching numbers are present on the barrel, frame, cylinder, loading gate and grip straps, with a smooth one-piece grip.

Manufucture: Colt

Guage: 44 CF

Very fine, with 75% of the nickel finish, showing a mild brown patina and a small amount of pitting near the muzzle and on the frame, a number of dents and scratches, and mild edge wear. Well aged brass is visible on the edges of the triggerguard, with a lightly darkened patina to the finish. The grips are good, with a mended chip at the toe, some rounding at the toe and heel, and light dents. Mechanically very good.
