Also known as the Second Type Richards Conversion of the Model 1860 Army revolver, this conversion is done without the rear sight on the breech plate, which is slotted at the top to accommodate the hammer. The hammer has been equipped with a center fire firing pin and retains the original notch which serves as the rear sight. The loading gate is thinner than the conventional Richards conversion and is fitted with external gate spring. The loading lever slot on the barrel has been plugged and an ejector assembly has been attached to the right side of the barrel. Blade front sight, with the one line New York U.S. America address marked on top of the barrel, the Texas Navy battle scene on the cylinder, two line "-PAT. JULY. 25,1871- /-PAT. JULY. 2.1872.-" patent marks on the frame followed by a "C", and matching full and partial numbers on the barrel lug, frame, loading gate, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. There is a large "S" stamped above the serial number on the barrel lug (writer believes this to be for stembridge movie rentals of California). All blue finish with silver plated trigger guard and fitted with a one piece walnut grip with a stamped star over "JJ" on the lower left, a "C" on the upper left and a star on the lower right side.
BBL: 8 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44 CF
Finish: blue/silver
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 194444
Condition: Refinished completely. The revolver is mostly a smooth gray and silver gray patina overall. An area of the cylinder has been cleaned and the scene is weak. The trigger guard has an aged patina with strong amounts of dark original silver on the inside of the bow. The left side of the frame has a dished out indentation with a "C" stamped on the "crater". The grip is good with a moderate chip on the right toe, small chip on the left toe, a couple of small gouges and minor dents on the bottom, wear on the bottom edges and a few minor dings and dents. Unless noted above, the markings are clear. The action is fine.
