Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver .44 cal., percussion , patina finish, wood grips, 4 screw frame with copy of factory letter stating: shipped to Governor Morton, Indianapolis Indiana April 21, 1861 one of 400 in shipment, serial #21981. Oliver Hazard Perry Throck Morton was a staunch ally of Abraham Lincoln and a devoted Unionist. He exceeded his authority by calling out the Militia and stifling the Democrats in the Indiana General Assembly. He arrested his enemies and suspected Southern Sympathizers. He had a long and vibrant Political Career and died while serving in the Senate in 1877. Morton equipped the Indian State Militia with this and the other 399 Colt Armies which were well used by the Gallant Indiana Troops which saw action from 61 throughout the Civil War. The Army remains in original good condition showing a dark grey to brown patina finish. The barrel address is good, the cylinder shows only faint hints of scene, the patent mark on frame is visible, the grips show carry and wear with some scrapes and battle sores but are fair-good and sound. There is some light to moderate pitting and erosion and the pistol has seen carry and field use. There are scratches and dings especially on the cylinder and the nipples are very old replacements (almost undetectable). The action is tight and the bore is still good. All matching visible numbers (the number on the cylinder is not legible) but this cylinder has been in this Colt all it's working life. Est. $1,750-3,500
