This is an example of a commercial production Colt Model 1860 Army revolver that was manufactured in 1863. This revolver has a high polish blue finish with casehardened lever, frame and hammer. The brass trigger guard is silver-plated. The rebated cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and "COLTS PATENT No/PATENTED SEPT 10th 1850". The one-piece ivory grip is checkered and has a relief carved eagle and nest with three eaglets being fed on the left side. The grip is period but not Colt factory work. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" in one line. "COLTS/PATENT" is roll-stamped in two lines on the left side of the frame. "44 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The serial number "149222" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The cylinder is stamped with a partial serial number "7273" and also with the partial serial number "9222". The serial number is identical to the serial numbers of the other components and appears to have been stamped by Colt.

Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: ivory carved
Serial Number: 149222
Condition: Fine as period refurbished. The revolver retains nearly 80% of the blue and casehardened finish. The barrel has some minor pitting on the right side of the muzzle. The cylinder has most of the blue finish intact with edge and high point wear and retains 90% of the roll-engraved naval scene. The cylinder safety pins are mostly gone and the percussion nipples show moderate flash pitting. The loading lever, frame and hammer have nearly 90% of the original casehardened finish with muted case colors. The frame screws have traces of niter blue finish. The trigger guard has about half of the silver-plated finish intact. The grip shows moderate wear and is very good overall. The ivory has a deep yellow patina. The checkering on the right side of the grip has worn nearly smooth and the high points of the relief-carved eagle show handling wear. The ivory has shrunk away from the back strap on both sides of the grip and there are several hairline age cracks in the butt. The barrel and frame markings are sharp. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is an attractive example of a commercial production Colt Model 1860 Army revolver with desirable relief-carved eagle/eaglets being fed ivory grip.
