Included in this lot is a classic Civil War issue Colt 1860 Army .44 Caliber Percussion Six Shot Revolver, low serial number 120332, made 1863. This was one of the most issued and popular of the Civil War revolvers with many, if not most, going to the West after the conflict for Indian Wars or civilian frontier service. This example is complete and functioning. It has matching numbers on the back strap, trigger guard, and frame. Overall this fine Colt displays an attractive deep aged patina with no evidence of having been buffed, polished, steel-wooled or cleaned. Correct 8” barrel with fine and standard Colt one line address on top, “ADDRESS COL. SAM’L COLT NEW YORK, US AMERICA,” correct small blade front sight, attached loading lever functions as it should, one piece walnut grips are in good condition. This Model 1860 still maintains a functioning action with strong springs. The cylinder displays traces of the original roll engraved cylinder scene depicting a naval battle as well as a stamped Colt patent date. Mellow brass trigger guard shows no signs of polishing and displays the stamped “44 CAL” caliber designation on the left rear side. All of this model made during the Civil War were issued and saw use. This handsome revolver is in a state of condition overall that exudes history and shows it was carried and used throughout most of the Civil War and then probably had a long service career on the western frontier. An iconic firearm of the violent close-contact battles of the Civil War and later in the turbulent Wild West. This handsome 157 year old example would fit in nicely in any Colt, Civil War or Old West collection. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
