Colt Model 1855 Military revolving rifle, five shot, .56 cal., 31-3/16” barrel, blue finish, full wood stock with flared iron ramrod, two stag flip up rear sight, two sling swivels, #3612. This gun is in overall very good condition showing tracesof original blue finish particularly on the octagon portion of the barrel at the breech, a pleasing brown plum patina mixed with traces of blue on the round portion of the barrel, frame, fluted cylinder and trigger guard; traces of blueon the hammer, tight action, bore should clean to good, sharp markings; good wood stock with scattered nicks, mars and scratches from carry and storage including two old “hash marks” and the letter “A” carved on the left side of the buttstock, iron butt plate with sliding trapdoor, two barrel bands. This scarce variation is covered in Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms under 5B-079. Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
