Colt Model 1851 percussion revolver, .36 cal., period reduced 5” octagon barrel, blue and case hardened, wood grips, backstrap period inscribed “Tracy & Co. Express”, #111478. This gun is in overall very goodcondition showing an even grey patina on metal surfaces with traces of muted case colors on the frame and rammer, considerable original cylinder scene remaining, crisp action, sharp markings, all matching serialnumbers including wedge and cylinder arbor; very good to fine grips. Lot accompanied by an inventory page from the famous Charles DuPont collection indicating this gun was purchased on July 28, 1944 from GeorgeParezo. Tracy Express began in the San Francisco area during the 1850s and expanded into the Northwest in the 1860s; Tracy’s was one of the early competitors to Wells Fargo & Co. in the Gold Country; also included arearticle information and other related document copies on Tracy Express and their operations. A very hard-to-find early Express Company piece from a great early collection. Est.: $8,000-$10,000.
