Colt Model 1849  Wells Fargo  Percussion Revolver
Manufactured in 1856, this particular Colt Model 1849 revolver has a three-inch octagon barrel with no provision for a loading lever and small round trigger guard. The revolver is in the correct 122000 serial range for the "Wells Fargo" Model 1849 revolvers without loading levers. The top of the barrel is marked "{ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY}". The five-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and "COLTS PATENT / No.122081" in two panels and "COLTS/ PATENT" is stamped on the left side of the frame. The complete matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder, the wedge is marked "22081" and the arbor pin "2081". There is a small "G" stamped on the left side trigger guard shoulder, a "T" on the bottom of the barrel lug and the number "8" is stamped below the serial number on the frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. Fitted with one piece varnished grips. Wells Fargo models are a desirable and highly sought after variation of the Colt Model 1849 pocket series.

Condition: Very good plus. The revolver has a crisp smooth mottled gray and brown patina. The backstrap retains 80% original silver plating and the trigger guard retains 30% original silver. The exposed brass has an aged patina. The cylinder scene is 90% visible. The wedge retention screw is a modern replacement. The grips are excellent with 95% original varnish, some lower edge wear and a few minor dings and dent marks. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
