Colt Model 1849 Revolver with Thuer Conversion

This Colt Model 1849 revolver has a reproduction Thuer conversion ring. The original Thuer conversion was Colt's first attempt to convert percussion revolvers to the new metallic cartridge system. The rear of the cylinder is milled off and a ring replaces the back of the cylinder. The conversion has a rebounding firing pin and they are milled to allow loading from the front of the revolver. The ejection position is marked with a stylistic "E" and the ring has the 1868 patent date. The top barrel flat on this revolver is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT/HARTFORD CT" flanked by dashes. The frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side. The cylinder has the roll engraved stagecoach holdup scene with "COLTS PATENT/No. 179836" in two panels. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with the letters "G" and "B". Fitted with a smooth one-piece grip. The contemporary case has red wine colored lining and is partitioned. Comes with a Model 1849 revolver percussion cylinder with stagecoach holdup scene.

Very good as replated. The revolver retains 97% of the silver plating which is beginning to darken with age showing some mild flaking. The cylinder retains most of the scene with a restamped serial number. The grip is very fine with some minor handling marks and retaining most of the finish. The conversion ring is loose, but the action functions well. The extra cylinder has a bright appearance with minor pitting. The case is very fine showing some high wear on the lining.
