Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Cap Revolver
Featured in this lot we have a Colt model 1849 pocket percussion cap revolver chambered in .31 caliber. This is a fine, original example .31 caliber, five-shot revolver that found favor with officers and enlisted men as personal weapons during the Indian Wars of the period. Many of these also saw service in the gold fields of California, the settling West, and in about all urban areas during this very turbulent time of Post-Civil War Reconstruction. The 1849 was one of Colt’s most popular designs that was large enough for aimed fire, but small enough to conceal in a waste band or unobtrusive holster. They also found favor with gamblers and “ladies of the evening.” The original barrel markings have faded and barely visible along with a faded “COLT’S PATENT” on the left side of the frame. Fine walnut grips show only normal light wear. This example also shows a mellow, uncleaned brass back strap and trigger guard. The pistol shows a dark patina and pitting across the exterior due to age and use. Serial Number: 18809. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
