Colt Model 1848 Baby Dragoon Revolver
Manufactured in 1849, this revolver was manufactured as a 5 inch barrel variant without the loading lever and the round cylinder stops. The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW-YORK CITY" with dashes at each end, "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame and the matching serial number is marked on the barrel, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, (with a "K" below) and backstrap. "COLTS / PATENT", the serial number and the Stagecoach Holdup scene are marked on the cylinder. The wedge is mismatched (948), but correct. This revolver was finished blue on the barrel and cylinder, casehardened frame, and hammer, silver-plated brass trigger guard and backstrap. It has the square back trigger guard and fitted with smooth one piece walnut grips.

Fine. The metal surfaces have traces of blue with the balance a crisp gray patina and a few small areas of minor pitting on the barrel, cylinder and right side of the frame. Both sides of the frame show some of the original casehardened pattern. The trigger guard and backstrap retain approximately 95% of the original silver plating with high edge wear and some minor flaking on the trigger guard bow. There are a couple areas that are darkening. The grips are very fine with about 80% original varnish remaining, a very small chip on each toe, some chipping in the finish and minor handling marks. The cylinder scene is 70% visible and the markings are clear. Like many Baby Dragoons it mechanically needs work as action will not always hold at full cock.
