Colt Mdl Ace Cal .22LR SN:8861
Colt Ace pre-war .22 cal semi-auto pistol, factory “B” engraved, blue finish, pearl grips sent originally on loan account to Willeys Providence, Rhode Island July 12th 1938 (1) gun in shipment and returned to the factory and re-shipped nine days later to Colt’s PT Fire Arms MFG Co. at Camp Perry Matches. Possibly factory refinished during return, however experts disagree whether it was indeed refinished or not. Shipped to Marshall Field and Co., Chicago, Il. Nov 9th 1938 and sold to them on Oct 31st 1939. Approx. twelve Ace pre-war Colt’s were factory engraved and only six in “B” coverage. The engraving is attributed to Gough and the engraving is almost identical to #8876. It is illustrated in “The Book of Colt Pistols” by Hable & Wilson page 353. The pistol remains in fine to excellent original condition showing 98% plus factory blue with just some very slight beginning age. The pistol is fitted with a pair of pearl grips in excellent condition and a pair of factory ivory grips in very near fine condition are also included which were on this Colt when pictured in the Hable book. The markings are sharp, the interior is excellent, all correct small parts and two tone ace clip is also included. Virtually impossible to find a better example of this rare Colt. Letter from Colt collectors’ association historian and automatic Colt pistol expert Lowell E. Pauli and factory letter are both included. In molded oak display box. Robert Hable could not find a better factory engraved Ace.
