Colt Mdl 1851 Cal.36 SN:1095
Colt 1851 London Series Navy revolver .36 cal. percussion, finely period engraved, full blue finish, pearl grips, cased with accessories. The revolver shows 70-80% thinning and toning blue finish which is drifting to patina with some light erosion and normal aging just starting. The markings are sharp, the edges are crisp and well defined. The cylinder shows 70-80% cylinder scene with visible engagement dates. The original to-the-period pearl grips fit impeccably and show iridescent hues and are at least very good+. The hammer and loading lever show strong traces of case hardening. The Colts patent on the frame is hand cut and the engraving is high quality. All matching visible serial numbers, about 75% darkened original silver on the straps. Tight action, bright bore. A few full blue engraved Navy's are known to collectors and it is reasonable they were special ordered from the London agency. The case is a green felt lined typical English oak case in partition style, with label in lid. The interior of the case is very good+ to near fine, with label 90-95% showing directions for Colts pistols, rifles, carbines and shotguns. The case is very good+ to near fine with just slight normal aging. A Dixon & Sons patent bag shaped flask of correct age and size is included, showing 75-85% lacquer with bright blue on the spring, a couple minor dents. A good .36 cal. mold and nipple wrench are included along with oiler, English rod and Eley Bros. cap tin. There is a near mint extra main spring in the upper compartment which shows its original cover. The oak case shows brass screws and mounts and exterior is at least very good, just normal aging. One of 3 London Navy's known to this cataloger with original to-the-period pearl grips. A very attractive rig which was purchased by our consigner in the 1960s and never offered for sale.
