Colt London 1849 Pocket .31 Cal SN: 2093
Salvaged engraved London series small frame single action revolver chambered for .31 caliber ammunition, manufactured circa 1854(second year production). Approximately 11,000 London 1849 Pocket revolvers were produced, a diminutive number when compared to the 325,000+ American units manufactured. This revolver features factory style scroll engraving, 6" octagon barrel marked with the standard London two-line address(though it is mostly illegible), brass post front sight, 'v' notch rear sight cut into the hammer, non-fluted six-shot cylinder no observed scene, loading lever, smooth thin trigger, knurled hammer spur, large oval steel trigger guard, steel backstrap and one-piece walnut grip. The cylinder pin, loading lever, trigger and hammer are modern production replacements. The original serialized parts are the barrel, frame trigger guard and backstrap, all of these bear a punched dot under the serial number. The cylinder and grips appear period but lack marks to prove their originality to the revolver. The barrel is proofed with the London proofs "[Crown]/V" & "[Crown]/GP" and the frame is marked "Colt's Patent" in old English letters within a banner. The original metal surfaces show traces of on old refinish with pitting found throughout but more so on the barrel. The modern replacements show nice case colors. Action is in working order, the bore shows good rifling & scattered light pitting, markings are fair and the walnut grip is near good with an old chip at the toe on the left side. Condition is near NRA Good. ***Antique Firearm***
