Colt Lightning magazine repeating slide-action rifle with large frame, .38-56-255 caliber, 28” octagon barrel, checkered pistol grip stock, shipped to Chas. F. Littlepage August 6, 1891, one gun in shipment, serial #54. Under special features, factory letter mentions Set Trigger and a Colt Peep Sight which are probably erroneous as this rifle has no set trigger or provision for peep sight. The rifle shows its original rear sight and standard front sight in proper dove tails. The rifle remains in very good plus original condition showing 80-90% original blue, evenly thinning and toning to patina with some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting just starting, some minor scratches, and uncleaned normal aging. The barrel address is sharp, the rampant colt stamp on left side of frame is well defined, the hammer shows 40-60% toning case hardening, the action is tight, and the bore is very good plus and still bright. The checkered select walnut stocks are also very good plus with sharp checkering, some minor bruises and mars and slight scratches and are completely uncleaned and fit perfectly to the metal. Only a handful of deluxe pistol gripped large frames are known to collectors and seldom seen offered for sale on the auction block. Recently discovered in the Northwest. See Lot #1431. Est: $14,000 - $28,000
