Colt Large Frame Lightning magazine slide action rifle, 50-95 EX. Cal., 26” round barrel, blue finish, wood stocks, #914. This gun is in overall good to very good condition showing an overall plum brown patina with scattered areas of moderate pitting on left front side of frame, rear left side of barrel assembly and left front side of barrel assembly at muzzle; action is crisp, markings are good, bore is very good as are the wood stocks which show some small scattered nicks and mars from carry and storage. British proofed and an interesting marking on the lower tang that may be researchable; rear sight is a three leaf period replacement. Factory letter confirms caliber as 50-95-300, blue finish with wood stocks, barrel length is listed as “28” round configuration”; shipped to Colt’s London Agency on December 19, 1887 in a shipment of 10 guns. Large frame Colt Lightning rifles are hard to find and the .50 caliber variety are especially desirable. Est.: $3,000-$4,000.
