Colt Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol, Factory Converted to a U.S. 1911A1 Pistol

Manufactured in 1943, this pistol started life as a commercial production Government Model Pistol before being converted to a 1911A1 for military sale. Fixed sights, with the two-line, single block address and patent dates on the left side of the slide, matching serial number around the firing pin, and "COLT/AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE .45" on the right, next to the Rampant Colt logo. Traces of the "GOVERNMENT MODEL" nomenclature on the right side of the frame are still visible, having been milled down and overstamped with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", "M1911A1 U.S.ARMY" on the right side, and the "G.H.D." inspection mark on the left. Fitted with a short milled trigger, checkered wide hammer, slide stop, thumb safety, and mainspring housing, reinforced Coltwood grips, full-blue "COLT/45 AUTO." magazine and a Colt barrel. The slide and frame were originally configured for a Swartz Safety, which was uninstalled when it was converted from civilian configuration to a military 1911A1.
