Condition:
Very fine. The revolver retains 70% of the original high polish blue and color casehardened finish. The barrel some minor edge wear. There are a number of shallow dents on the right side of the lug surrounding the wedge slot. The cylinder has a blue-brown patina with traces of original finish in protected areas. The naval battle scene is light but mostly intact. The cylinder pins are battered and there is flash pitting on the percussion nipples and rear portion of the cylinder. The trigger guard and back strap retain nearly 90% of the high polish blue finish. The loading lever, frame and hammer have more than 90% of the subdued case colors intact. The frame, trigger guard and back strap screws retain much of the fire blue finish and are very good. The grip is very good overall with light-moderate handling wear. All of the markings on the barrel and frame are crisp. The action functions well. This is a very fine example of a post-Civil War Model 1851 Navy revolver with rarely encountered iron back strap and trigger guard.
