Colt First Model Dragoon Revolver
Colt First Model Dragoon Revolver. 7 ½" part round, part octagon barrel is 44 caliber and has a good bore. The top of the barrel is marked "Address Saml Colt New York City" in one line. The left side of the frame is marked "Colt's" over "patent" over "US". All parts have the matching serial number 5658. The Texas Ranger and Indian scene is all there but becoming faint-the outline of the Colts Patent panel is very faint and the inscription can't be seen. There is a letter K stamped on the cylinder close to the serial number. Most metal surfaces are a uniform gray but all edges are sharp. The brass trigger guard and back strap are both marked with the letter K and there is a letter G in front of the guard. The wood grips are in fine condition and were not marked with a cartouche. This gun was owned by a sheep rancher in Alturas, California. Upon his death in 1895, the grandfather of its present owner (then 18 years old) and his mother traveled from Connecticut by train to Reno, Nevada and then by stagecoach to Alturas, California to settle her brother's estate. As a part of the settlement, the son was given his uncle's Colt pistol. Since that time the Colt has been handed down through three generations of the family. A rare early Colt.
