Colt First Model Dragoon, .44 caliber percussion revolver, blue finish, wood grips, U.S. marked frame, serial #5447. The dragoon shows traces of original blue on barrel drifting to a grey brown patina, some scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting, the pitting occurring at the muzzle and forcing cone. The barrel address is sharp. There has been a well made v-notch sight added at the breech through the “ad” in address. There has also been a fine silver sideplate added at the front of the barrel which is matching to this period rear sight. The cylinder shows approx. 75-85% well-defined cylinder scene with most of Dragoon’s and Colt’s patent along with Ornsby signature visible. The Dragoon and Indian scene is very sharp and still crisp. The cylinder shows a light grey patina. The hammer shows traces of case hardening gone to a dark patina. The frame shows a light grey to brown patina with some very faint colors mixed in. The backstrap and trigger gua show traces of darkened old silver plate in protected areas. The grips are good with a couple small losses at the edges and toes, a few marks on the butt, but generally good overall. The backstrap shows a well-milled cut for a key type
