Colt Experimental Prototype Model U Semi-Automatic Target Pistol with Factory Letter
Estimate: $1000 - 1500
This prototype pistol was manufactured for Colt by Norinco, China. The pistol features an unusual profile, which includes a large trigger guard and trigger. Heavy 6 inch target barrel with a wide serrated vent rib, fitted with a blade front and adjustable rear target sights. The left side of the barrel is marked "MODEL U CAL .22/COLT HARTFORD CT CHINA NORINCO" and the serial number is marked on the left side of the frame. The pistol is fitted with varnished smooth walnut grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the serial number, caliber, heavyweight 6 inch vent rib barrel, blue finish, the barrel marking, smooth varnished wood grips and that it was shipped on October 16, 2008. In the remarks it states that "Subject pistol is a prototype of a new design semi-automatic pistol kept by the Colt factory with a low serial number." Colt's association with Norinco was short lived. There is also a copy of a letter from the ATF stating that this pistol is classified as a Curio & Relic.
