Colt Detectives Special, United States Marine Corp marked, serial #471699, blue finish, checkered medallion wood grips; sold to U. S. Government, shipped to Post Quartermaster Marine Barracks, Washington, DC, February 10, 1942 on order number 1278, six guns in shipment. This pistol #471699, remains in fine to near excellent original condition showing 96-99% original blue finish, slight handling, minor edge wear and a very slightindex line around cylinder. The grips are very good+, the markings sharp, the bore excellent and the pistol shows just minor use and carry. Book entitled "US Handguns of WWII", page 173, confirms six DetectiveSpecials shipped to Marine Barracks Washington; and interestingly also pictured on this page is General George Patton, armed with and carrying a Detective Special in a special holster on a general officer's gunbelt while serving with the 7th Army in France 1944. It is believed this small quantity of Marine Corp marked Detective Specials were intended for military couriers attached to the intelligence service and
