Colt Bisley model revolver, .41 Colt caliber, 4-3/4” barrel, brown patina finish, finely made cast-silver and gold grips with initials “PV” at the top of each grip, serial #217331. The pistol shows an even grey to brown patina finish, with some erosion, pinprick pitting, some slightly heavier pitting on the front ejector rod housing. The markings are good, the action is good, the bore is very good. All matching serial numbers. A collection tag is attached to trigger guard, John Wilson #60. John Wilson was a well-known collector who’s family ran ranches in Texas and New Mexico since the early frontier days. Mr. Wilson’s father and grandfather collected guns, and the family knew Poncho Villa, and Pat Garrett, and their paths crossed with some of the legends of the West. We had occasion to sell several hundred arms from this collection more than a decade ago in which this pistol was included. Mr. Wilson had several Villa guns that he obtained by decent and from Mexican government officials he knew. There is no paperwork or documentation, however these grips are exceptional and were made for someone of importance. The quality of the gold work is very good, and the PV and bull’s head are significant.
