Colt Artillery Model Single Action Army Revolver, #138316, .45 Colt cal., 5-1/2'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, with 1902 dated smooth walnut grips, additionally cartouched for Odas C. Horney, as well as sub-inspected by RAC (Rinaldo A. Carr) at butt. Revolver was sent back to Colt and altered to this configuration, subsequently shipped to the Springfield Armory on August 3, 1903, as per factory letter and a letter from John A. Kopec. This revolver was originally shipped in the 7-1/2'' original Cavalry configuration on Feb. 28, 1891, prior to modification. Kopec further states that with 1898 activity dates, this would indicate that they were involved in the Spanish-American War effort. Kopec continues that this revolver remains in perfect original condition showing much of its refurbished factory blue finish and strong traces of its frame case colors. He states that in his opinion it is totally original and authentic in every respect. Condition is about fine. Barrel retains approx. 92% blue. Ejector rod housing and triggerguard show approx. 75% blue; backstrap with approx. 50% blue. Both triggerguard and backstrap are serialized #5593; cylinder appears to be #3541; frame shows approx. 25%-30% case colors with light toning and graying to metal surfaces. Sear and trigger screw with very light deformation to slots. Grips with fractional shrinkage and light impressions to left side. Action is crisp, bore is fine. Est.: $6,000-$8,000. (Antique)
