Colt 3rd model Hartford – English Dragoon fully and finely banknote scroll engraved with deluxe burl walnut grips, in original case with accessories, serial number 125. This fine Dragoon is pictured on a two-page color spread in “The Colt Engraving Book” volume 1 pages 232 and 233. This revolver shows an unusual reinforcing holster with screw in grips of which only a couple are known. This Colt shows fine banknote style engraving with border pattern and Colts Patent in script at center of frame with floral decorations on the back of each recoil shield and full quality deluxe English treatment. The barrel shows 20% to 30% original bright blue drifting to patina with some scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting just starting. The cylinder shows strong traces of cylinder scene and about 10% to 20% blue. The frame and hammer show at least 20% to 40% case hardening. The plunger shows some original color and loading lever has been lightly cleaned with a trace of case hardening. The back strap and trigger guard show 90% original silver plate with some small losses at the edges. The deluxe burl walnut grips are near fine with a couple of minor scratches and marks in the varnish. All matching visible serial numbers. The markings are good, action is good and the bore is excellent. The cylinder retains all of its cylinder pins with one slightly marred. The revolver is contained within its original to the period partition style case lined in blue velveteen and remaining in very good original condition with just slight normal aging. The case contains a very good mold, a Hawksley bag flask in fine condition, large English cap tin, oil bottle and bone accessory box. The exterior of the box is English oak with brass fixtures and remains in good to very good condition with normal aging. This is the kind of Colt set that advanced collectors love to find as it is 100% authentic and is one of the best displayed Colt revolvers in the Colt engraving book. Est.: $30,000 -$60,000.
