Colt 3rd model Dragoon, .44 caliber percussion, cut for shoulder stock, grey patina finish, wood grips, serial #16937. The Colt remains in original fair condition showing light to slightly heavy scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The heaviest pitting occurring on the cylinder and left side of barrel. The right side of barrel lug over the wedge shows some deep mars. The pistol has seen general hard use and carry. The grips are good with some small losses, even aging, and the soldier has marked the gun with a variation of an X with a dot in the center on the bottom of the grips and the left side of the barrel lug. The pistol shows a US marked frame and several small inspectors’ marks. The front of the hammer has been repaired. The rear sight is broken and missing its leaves, and the front sight has been slimmed. All matching visible serial numbers. The number on the barrel is partially obscured by nicks, but legible and matches. The ramrod catch is an old replacement. The action is working, the nipples are old period replacements. A couple of screws are replaced. The triggerguard shows slight reshaping from being dropped. The barrel address and patent markings are good. Cut for stock 3rd
