Colt 3rd model Dragoon, .44 caliber percussion, US martial marked and cut for a shoulder stock, serial number #17193. The barrel shows a light patina with traces of blue mixed in the brown, good barrel address, good edges, and generally sharp overall with three-leaf rear sight and German silver front sight reduced slightly. The cylinder shows 20-30% original cylinder scene. Model USMR and Colt’s Patent about 50% visible, Hornsby’s signature barely visible. Some dings at the edges, minor erosion, pinprick pitting, and a faint trace of blue. The frame shows light traces of case hardening within a grayish light brown patina. There is some scattered erosion, pinprick pitting, some slightly heavier pitting at the left forward edge of frame by “Colt’s Patent” which extends approx. 1”. The hammer and loading lever show 20-30% case hardening within a brownish patina with some slight colors. The grips are good with marks from stock attachment, some wear at the edges, minor dings and mars, with very faint outline of cartouche on left. The backstrap shows some light to moderate pitting. The action is good, the interior is very good, with all matching visible serial numbers. A far better than average cut-for-stock 3rd model Dragoon. Original inventory sheet from the Charles DuPont collection notes purchase from Greg Martin, 1978 with shoulder stock #17671 and #17672, which is the next lot. Est: $6,000 - $12,000
