Colt #3 .41 caliber derringer, early variation with high hammer and curved grip, finely factory or period deluxe scroll engraved, silver and gold finish, varnish hardwood, possibly ebony grips, serial #7009 beneath frame with “E” marking. The barrel shows 20-30% original silver that is lifting and where silver has lifted has gone to a dark patina with no polishing. The frame shows traces of gold gilt over silver base plate. The majority of which has gone to a rich light honey-color patina. The grips show some edge wear and some scratches but are very good plus overall. The engraving is absolutely genuine to the 19th century and beautifully accomplished. The markings are sharp, the hammer shows considerable case hardening, the bores are very good. From the Howard “Bud” Goebel collection. Est: $2,000 - $4,000
