Colt 2nd Army Contract Model 1900 Sight Safety Semi-Automatic Pistol, #1529, .38 ACP cal., 6'' barrel, blue finish, thick factory checkered walnut grips, with one correct nickel-plated magazine showing 1884 patent dates. After the Fall 1900 field tests were concluded, improvements were requested on the existing design. Colt supplied 200 of these 2nd Army Contract pistols with thicker checkered grips and slide serrations moved forward. Right triggerguard bow marked ''RAC'' (Rinaldo A. Carr); left triggerguard bow marked ''US''. Considered a rare and unusual variation of the Model 1900, it is a key piece in the evolution of the U.S. semi-automatic pistol. Condition is very good retaining approx. 50% original factory blue with considerable thinning and toning to the slide area, which also includes some light pitting. Sides of frame retain most of the blue, as do protected areas. Grips show light flattening. Case hardened hammer and rear sight with thinning and toni!
ng. Magazine shows little use. Interior of pistol remains fine to near excellent showing only light wear, with an excellent bore. A rare opportunity to acquire an early and desirable martial semi-automatic pistol. Est.: $5,000-$7,500.
