Colt 1st Model Root 1855 sporting rifle, SN: 474 in .36 caliber and 27” shortened barrel. Shows groove for oilers and eyelet for rod (Both Missing). American “Kentucky Style” restock with a large patch box (Door Removed) probably forgrease to prepare the cylinder not to chain fire. The sights are removed and the action is not working. The barrel address is good and legible. The metal shows a brown patina with traces of blue mixed in. Many dents, dings, mars, and slightpitting. All major parts complete. Probably went west in the gold rush era before the Civil War began as made about 1855-56 when multi-shot revolvers were at a premium. In fine condition we have sold 1st models above $35,000!!!
