S/N C1904506. One of the few pre-war National Match pistols documented to and carried by a U.S. Officer. Factory letter shows shipment to Major J. Knuebel, National Rifle Association on October 25, 1938, furnished with the updated Swartz safety. Colonel John Herman Knuebel had one of the greatest careers in the History of the Army. He entered the Army in 1910, and saw combat with General Pershing against Pancho Villa and Zapata. He fought WWI in Europe, 1934-35 Command General Staff Fort Leavenworth , WWII Chief of Staff of the First Ranger Battalion & Chief of Staff V Corps. Also considered one of the greatest marksman in the history of the Army, numerous time Captain of the U.S. Rifle Team, Pan Am Rifle Team, and Captain of the U.S. Marksman Team in Europe. Only between 1,000 estimate by Timothy Mullin and 5,000 Clawson pre-war National Matches produced. First year the Swartz safety produced in the 1911, because of only 3 years of production and few ordered, only a handful of documented Swartz safety National Match Colts exists. SERIAL NUMBER C1904506
