Vintage American made semi-automatic pistol, manufactured circa 1903, first year of production, A total of approximately 29,237 were produced. (1903-1927) Designed by John Browning, blued finish, no manual safety, no grip safety, 4 1/2" barrel, bore is very good/bright, blade front sight, open notch rear sight, checked low-profile hammer, smooth trigger, black hard rubber grips with "Colt" and "Rampant Colt" logo, metal 7-round single stack magazine, approximately 10% of original blue remains with the rest turned a gray/dull blue patina. There is a patch of very light pitting on top of the slide. The grips are very good, no chips, action is smooth. Colt marking are crisp/clear. It is a compact version of the Colt Model 1902 Sporting Model pistol derived from the original Colt M1900. The .38 ACP (aka .38 Auto) and the .38 Super use cases with identical dimensions, the only difference being the maximum operating pressures of each. It would be unwise to use new, factory .38 Super ammunition in any pistol based on the M1900 series Colts. (1900, 1902, 1903). Comes with a Colt factory letter confirming the above configuration.
