Colt 1877 Lightning Model, double action revolver, .38 caliber, 2 ½” barrel, nickel plated remaining in excellent condition with its original cardboard picture box, serial number 45625 shipped October 30, 1883 withall features verified by factory letter and sent to Hartley & Graham, New York, New York. Included with this revolver is an original messenger style belt with double buckles and provision for both revolver and pocket watchwith pocket for money or dispatch letters. The bottom of the original cardboard box is inscribed in pen “Property of Louis B. Gately U.S. Army aviation”. Louis B. Gately was born August 8, 1898 in Westerly, Rhode Island and attended Cornell University also he served in World War I and traveled throughout the West and Arizona in the early 1920s possibly where he obtained this Colt. This Colt retains 98% plus bright original nickelwith just some very small areas of pinprick pitting starting on the front edges of the frame (Minute). The etched panel is frosty and nearly 100%.
