Colt 1872 Opentop revolver, .44 rimfire caliber, blue and case hardened finish, one piece ivory grips, shipped to H. D. Folsom Arms Company, New York, New York, may 21st 1873, 10 guns in shipment, serial #2151, with factory letter. The pistol shows an excellent refinish with correct color blue and case hardening, probably by Sedgley of Philadelphia or possibly factory. The edges are crisp, the markings are sharp. The cylinder scene is almost 100%. The action is crisp, the bore is excellent. The wedge is case hardened which is incorrect and also the firing pin was case hardened rather than blued. There are a few scratches and there is some natural aging, particularly on the barrel, and there is some drifting on the triggerguard and backstrap. The ivory grips fit beautifully and are also nicely aged and are of a slightly later date in our opinion. All matching visible serial numbers. This exact Colt has been pictured in Colt Collector’s magazine and many other collector’s publications as an original mint Opentop. Mr. Howard “Bud” Goebel owned the pistol for over 40 years and believed it to be 100% factory original which unfortunately was not the case as we would
