Colt 1862 police (conversion) or New Model breech loading pistol. .38 rimfire caliber, 4-1/2” barrel, nickel finish, rebated cylinder, recoil plate and loading gate added to back of frame. Ejector rod housing also added with 1871/72 Patent dates. Serial numbered in cartridge range with plugged percussion-era barrel. Serial #6905. Refer Variations of Colt New Police and Pocket Breech Loading Pistols by Breslin, Pirie, and Price page 55-62 where author states approx. 5,400 were newl made in their own serial number range. The revolver remains in good to very good original condition showing 60-80% original nickel drifting at the muzzle, high points, and edges. Areas where finish has lifted going to a dark metal patina with some erosion and pinprick pitting just starting and slightly heavier pitting at the muzzle and breech areas. The cylinder retains approx. 60-80% cylinder scene, the markings are good and sharp, the grips are good with 30% varnish, some small losses, nicks, mars, and compressions. The action is good, the interior very good. All matching visible numbers. Some slight tacking marks on bottom of grips and butt. Est: $900 - $1,800
