Colt 1862 Police (conversion) new model breech loading revolver, .38 rimfire caliber, 4-1/2” barrel with plugged ramrod hole in barrel lug. 1871/72 patent dates, two-line barrel address, loading gate with recoil plate inset into rear of frame. Ejector rod housing added. Nickel plated. Varnish wood grips. Serial #13133. Refer Flayderman 5B-128. Refer Colt New Police and Pocket Breech Loading Pistols by Breslin, Pirie, and Price page 80/81. Collectors have long termed these conversions although they were actually cartridge models that utilized some leftover percussion parts. The pistol remains in very good plus condition showing 75-85% original nickel, some losses at the edges, even lifting, and some erosion and pinprick pitting where the nickel has lifted and also darkening in those areas. The markings are good the edges are fairly crisp. The two-line barrel address is sharp and 90% cylinder scene remains. The hammer shows 90% case hardening, the firing pin shows bright blue and is secured by two pins. The varnished wood grips are very good plus with 75-85% original varnish, some minor scratches, wear at the edges, small imperfections, and even wear and use. The small
