Colt 1861 Navy (Conversion) to .38 rimfire cartridge showing 1871/72 patent dates. Recoil shield and loading gate. Ejector rod and housing added to side of barrel. Iron backstrap and trigger guard. Serial numbered in own range, serial #2895. This Richards Mason type conversion was actually made as a cartridge arm, utilizing leftover percussion parts and iron backstrap and triggerguard probably returned from London agency. Refer Flayderman 5B-124. The barrel shows plugge ramrod hole and approx. 20-30% original nickel drifting to grey with some scattered light to moderate surface pitting, some darkening where the nickel has lifted and some slightly heavier of pitting in a few scattered small spots. The ejector rod housing shows traces of nickel, light to moderate pitting, and some heavier pitting toward the front half-inch. The cylinder shows 30-60% original cylinder scene and engagement dates at front edge. Approx. 10-20% original nickel and generally smooth patina on the cylinder with a couple of nicks, and normal aging. The frame shows 50-70% original nickel that is evenly drifting and toning. The backstrap and trigger guard show 50-60% toning nickel. The revolver has
