Colt 1860 Army revolver, .44 caliber percussion, finely factory style engraved, blue and case hardened finish, wood grips, with engraved shoulder stock. Pistol serial number “126638E”, stock number “125757”. The Colt retains approx. 40-60% original blue on barrel, evenly thinning and toning with areas of grey patina. Some scattered light erosion and just beginning pinprick pitting. The barrel address is sharp, the edges fairly crisp, a few dings and some slight muzzle wear. The cylinder has gone to patina with a trace of blue on the edge and about 50-70% light cylinder scene with legible engagement dates. The frame shows traces of case hardening within a silvery grey patina. The action is crisp and all the cylinder pins are retained. Curiously, the hammer was never engraved and show approx. 30-50% dulled case hardening and the lever shows traces of case hardening. The backstrap and triggerguard show 20-30% original silver plate, evenly drifting to patina. The varnish wood grips are very good with 60-70% varnish, some scratches and mars from the attachment to the stock, but at least very good overall. All matching serial numbers. Tight action, pristine interior. Bright blue beneath loading lever. The engraving is of high quality factory pattern with well-cut scrolls and flowers. The associated shoulder stock is nicely engraved in a similar factory scroll motif and shows about 50-60% silver plate. The stock is in good condition showing some cleaning, some minor digs, mars, and scratches, but at least very good overall. The jaw for attachment is nicely engraved, and the association between the stock and gun may have been through a New York engraver or jobber. Original inventory sheet from the Charles DuPont collection, purchased together from legendary Texas gun dealer Red Jackson, 1979. Note: There is an “S” stamped behind the triggerguard which is an original stamp and may indicate supplied with stock. Est: $15,000 - $30,000
