Colt 1860 Army revolver, .44-40 caliber percussion, 7-1/2” barrel with fluted cylinder, 4-screw frame, blue and case hardened finish, shipped April 4th, 1861. 300 guns in shipment. Location of shipmentlisted as ‘illegible’. Letter states ‘the shipment was directed through New York’. The Colt remains in original very good condition showing 20-30% original blue drifting to a light grayish brown patina, some scatteredlight erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. There is some areas of bright blue where protected and mostly in the flutes of the cylinder and beneath the loading lever. The frame, loading lever, and hammer show30-50% case hardening drifting to grey with a few small vivid areas. The grips are good with 50-60% varnish, some slight edge wear, some small losses, but at least very good overall. The markings are sharp, the patentdate in cylinder flute very crisp. Action tight, bore very good plus and wedge matching. All matching serial numbers. A very nice early Civil War Colt with desirable barrel length that may be further
