Colt 1860 Army Revolver with Fluted Cylinder c1861
Available for purchase is this immensely scarce original Colt 1860 Army Revolver in with Fluted Cylinder in all matching 8301 serial number fine condition. Manufactured in 1861, this revolver is one of only about 4,000 Colt Model 1860 Army Revolvers manufactured with the full fluted cylinder after which all other 1860 Army revolvers (numbering more than 200,000+) had the typical round cylinders. These revolvers appear in the first 8,500 serial numbers and have a four-screw frame with recoil shields cut for an attachable shoulder stock. With most of these early production revolvers were the first to see action in the United States Civil War, survival rate of this rare early variation is extremely small and good examples with all matching serial numbers, such as this firearm, almost never appear on the collector market today. This example shows clear serial numbers on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back of the cylinder, cylinder arbor, and light but legible numbers on the butte. Of all the numbers on the firearm only the small barrel wedge has a slightly higher number than the other numbers. The correct four-screw frame is marked, “COLT’S PATENT” on the left side. Top of 8” barrel correctly stamped “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U. S. AMERICA.” Stamped in one cylinder flute is “PATENTED SEPT 10TH 1850.” The right side of barrel is marked with an upside-down “K”. The revolver features an 8 inch barrel, in .44 Caliber, six-shot single action with small original silver front blade sight, unaltered, with hammer notch rear sight. Overall metal shows a nicely aged smooth gray/brown finish, with correctly cut shoulder stock frame, uncleaned mellow brass trigger guard, tight action and mechanically very sound. This is one of the rarest and earliest Colt’s issued at the very beginning of the Civil War. All of these fluted Colts saw heavy combat and surviving examples are few, especially matching numbers in anything but poor abused condition, with this being one of the finer condition examples offered for sale. Most of the best and most advanced Colt or Civil War collections lack this very important and historic early Model 1860 Army Revolver with Fluted Cylinder with them rarely being encountered on the collector market today. Serial Number 8301, manufactured in 1861. Antique Firearm requires NO FFL.
