Colt 1860 Army Percussion Revolver, #111096, as shipped to Co. K, 9th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry, .44 cal., 8'' barrel, originally with blue and case hardened finish, iron backstrap, brass triggerguard, and one-piece cartouched walnut grips. The 9th Michigan was involved in the battle of Bentonville, and the only Michigan Cavalry regiment that marched with Sherman to the sea and maintained communications between Sherman's Army and the Atlantic Coast. They were at Decatur and on to Stone Mountain, and during the Atlanta Campaign battled the Confederates in skirmishes at Macon, Griswaldville, Milledgeville, and Gilliam's plantation. In the final tally, the Regiment suffered two officers and 26 enlistedmen killed in action or mortally wounded, and two officers and 154 enlistedmen who died of diseases. Serial number is verified as shipped in Springfield Armory records (page included). Condition is good remaining complete and original, in exactly the condition you would expect for a pistol showing this type of service. Little original finish remains with light pitting to left side of frame at recoil shield, minor pitting to barrel assembly, and repair to ramrod. Grips show moderate scuffs and scratches but with still visible cartouche. All visible matching serial numbers, including wedge; wedge screw appears to be a later replacement. Touch holes are clear. Action is crisp, bore is fair. A great Civil War veteran with that ''been there'' look, as the 150th anniversary approaches. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (Antique)
