Colt 1851 Navy revolver, second model, square back triggerguard, original engraved, brown patina finish, burl wood grips, serial #3546. The Navy remains in good condition showing a brown patina finish, some scattered light to moderate erosion and some pinprick pitting and normal wear. The cylinder shows 30-50% cylinder scene, a few dings and mars, Ornsby signature visible, and some slight darkening and normal aging. The edges of the engraving on the barrel shows some wear. The frame is very sharp and crisp as is the loading lever and hammer. The backstrap and triggerguard show 60-70% original thick silver plate with some just slight drifting. The original burl wood grip show some even wear, some darkening, and one larg chip at the heel, but at least good. The engraving is exceptionally high quality and more profuse than normally found on second models showing roses at the left rear recoil shield, Colt’s patent on right side of the frame rather than left, and the left side of the frame is fully engraved. The triggerguard and backstrap show shields surrounded by scrolls. All matching visible serial numbers. Estimates of 20-30 surviving original engraved second model Navy’s
