Colt 1851 Navy revolver in .36 caliber percussion, fully and finely Gustave Young tight scroll engraved with original to the period ivory grips, serial number 37890. The barrel has been period reduced to 5” with a neat replacement blade and post site which is also contemporary. The metal surfaces remain in good condition with some minor light rust and erosion with some areas of minor pitting. There is also slight traces of original finish where protected. A few screws are excellent restorations. All matching visible serial numbers and about 50% to 60% light original cylinder scene remains. The engraving is of extra fine quality and beautifully accomplished by the master himself. The ivory grips show some cracking and normal aging. The action is good and the edges are still fairly crisp. In the early small guard Navy serial range that could have went West in the height of the California gold rush.
