Colt 1851 Navy revolver, .36 caliber percussion, blue and case hardened finish wood grips, small guard variation, serial #34498. The barrel retains 30-50% evenly thinning and toning blue finish with some drifting to light grayish brown where the blue has lifted. There is a blade and post front sight dovetailed in the front of the barrel which is of the period. The cylinder shows 75-85% original scene with engagement dates and Ornsby signature still visible. The cylinder shows some light cleaning long ago and is going to a grey patina. The frame shows 20-30% case hardening drifting to grey. The hammer shows traces of case hardening with some pitting. The loading lever shows traces of case hardening also drifting. The backstrap and triggerguard are lightly polished and show traces of original silver where protected. The varnish wood grips are good to very good with 75% varnish, some nicks and mars and marks on the bottom from tapping. All matching serial numbers, good action, some bright blue beneath the lever. Bore is excellent.. A far above average gold-rush era 51 Navy. From the Bernard Braverman Estate. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
