Colt 1851 Navy revolver, .36 caliber percussion, blue and case hardened finish, varnish wood grips, small guard variation, serial #67845. The navy shows a U.S. marked frame and a couple of sub-inspector’s marks, but sold on civilian market, and probably a military return or overrun. The barrel shows approx. 10-20% original blue drifting to a grey brown, with some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting. The barrel address is good, the metal surfaces are fairly sharp with some marks around the wedge port, minor scratches, and an area of slightly heavier pitting toward the front of the barrel which is minor. The cylinder shows 50-60% cylinder scene with engagement dates still legible on edge. Traces of original blue, mostly going to matching brown to the barrel. The hammer, frame, and loading lever show 20-30% case hardening within a smoky patina with some faint rainbow colors. The backstrap and trigger guard show 50-70% darkened original silver plate. The varnish wood grips are in good condition showing 50-70% varnish, some normal wear at edges and bottoms, small losses, minor imperfections. Good markings, tight action, bright interior, all matching visible serial
