Colt 1851 Navy revolver, .36 caliber percussion, blue and case-hardened finish, varnish wood grips, early 3rd variation with small trigger guard. Serial #34452. The barrel retains 70-80% bright original blue, naturally aging and toning with some slight scratches, minor erosion and pinprick pitting just starting in a few areas. The cylinder shows light cleaning long ago and is mostly bright. Nearly all the original cylinder scene remains with Ornsby signature and engagement dates still visible. The frame and hammer show 30% plus smoky case hardening as does the loading lever. The backstrap and trigger guard show 90% plus darkened original silver plate. The varnish wood grips are very good plus to near fine with 90% plus varnish, some minor nicks, mars, scratches, and two identifying marks on left bottom grip. Sharp edges, fiery blue beneath the lever. Crisp interior, all matching except cylinder which is numbered “34252” and is exactly 200 numbers off and it is our opinion that it is a factory error being stamped “252” rather than “452”. An exceptional Gold-Rush era Colt Navy revolver. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
