Colt 1861 Navy Percussion Revolver, #26088, .36 cal., 7-1/2'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, beautiful one-piece Mexican snake and eagle carved ivory grips. Mfg'd 1865. Complete in a high quality Mexican mfg'd slim-jim holster with fine tight red stitching, suede-lined interior, and single belt loop affixed with arsenal brass washer and rivet. Condition is very good to near fine retaining approx. 40%-50% finish to barrel assembly. Cylinder shows faint traces of blue in protected areas, with naval engagement scene remaining mostly visible, save for a small area of pitting which runs laterally down the length of the cylinder. Case hardened colors to frame and hammer remain approx. 75% vivid, with silvering to high edges of recoil shield and very light general pitting and scuffing. Backstrap has mostly worn smooth showing little original silver. Triggerguard with silver in protected areas. Grips show light wear and very minor shrinkage, with snake and eagle!
motif exhibiting very high detail and only the slightest wear on the high areas with nice attractive mellow toning. Screws show little evidence of turning with the exceptional of the bolt stop screw which only shows minor aberrations. All visible matching serial numbers, with the exception of the wedge which is from a later gun. Safety pins are present; percussion nipples are unobstructed. Revolver shows some, but little, use. Most finish loss appears to be from holster storage. Action locks up tight, bore is excellent. Holster retains nearly all its original stitching with small losses to original exterior finish. Red border work shows thinning. Interior with light areas of fraying where it comes in contact with sharp parts of gun, mainly around hammer. A beautiful Colt Mexican rig dating from the mid-1860s. Est.: $5,000-$7,500.
